Description

 

Type S3 240W Uninterruptable Power Supply is an industrial grade unit for stationary and indoor use only.

 

 

 

Main functions referred to the figure above:

LOAD: Connect to the fused screw terminals at the bottom-end of the BATTERY PROTECTION UNIT(+ 1,2,3 ; - 1,2,3 (10A))

 

OUTPUT VOLTAGE  :   The output voltage from the charger is pre-set for 13.6 or   .                                                 27.2V DC (1 or 2 batteries). The connection is to the left-side connector of the BATTERY PROTECTION UNIT.

 

BATTERY: Connected to the right-side connectors of the BATTERY PROTECTION UNIT (red+; black-)(For 27,2VDC use 2 batteries in series. See Battery box for floor installation fig.4).Battery fuse is FS7(15A)    

 

 

 

 

BATTERY PROTECTION UNIT: The UPS is equipped with a protection relay, which will protect the lead-acid battery against "deep discharge"  (totally discharged, 0V on the terminals).

 

A totally discharged lead-acid battery is almost impossible to recharge.

The protection relay will avoid this situation.

 

The protection relay is operated by the CONTROLLER UNIT, and is OFF when the 24 hours test routine is running. If battery test is negative, the protection relay will stay off, and the “Battery  LED” will indicate “Failure”.

The BPU is also equipped with an ALARM RELAY with pre-set delay function (see time instruction for the DIL-switch, CONTROLLER UNIT).

The ALARM RELAY CONNECTOR (C-NC-NO) is at the right side of the BPU.

In normal operation contacts marked C and NC are closed.

 

Controller display:

The UPS is equipped with a microcontroller which continuously monitors the Battery and Charger unit.

LED indicators in the front panel indicate status.

The following table describes the LED status for different conditions.

 

DIP-switch pre setting:

DIP1: ON sets the sound alarm-buzzer ON-OFF.

DIP2: ON (dip 3-4 OFF) delay alarms 15min.

DIP3: ON (dip 2-4 OFF) delay alarms 30min.

DIP4: ON (dip 2-3 OFF) delay alarms 60min.

Battery status:

  • Green = Battery OK
  • Red = Battery voltage too low in the last test.
  • Red/green flashes = Battery OK, but more than 3 years old.

Flashes alternatively red/green during tests.

Flashes yellow during start-up.

 

Alarm conditions

When a fault condition occurs the alarm relay is activated, in addition to light and sound.

With DIP-switch 1 in OFF position all sound warnings will be deactivated. The alarm relay will stay activated as long as one or more alarm conditions exist. Sound and LED light signals are activated according to priority.

 

Priority example:

Mains power off starts Alarm 2.

If the cabinet door opens, Alarm 1 starts ( higher priority ). When the door is closed, status goes back to Alarm 2. But if the mains input falls out whilst the door is open , Alarm 2 will not occur until the door is closed.

Different alarm conditions give the following sound signals when DIP-switch 1 is set ON:

Service-mode

When pushing ”Test button” more than 10 sec., you enter “SERVICE MODE”.

 

In “SERVICE MODE” the Tamper Switch is deactivated.

The 4 LED’s will flash and all other functions are disabled.

 

When service is completed and the cover is remounted, push the “Test button” more than 10 sec.

The control system will be reset.

 

Test routine

Starts automatically every 24 hours. The battery is disconnected and tested. LED flashing sequence indicates battery status during the test. A green or red light will show the result of the test on the battery status LED. The same test can also be started manually by pushing the “Test button” in the front panel.

 

Start up

There is a 2 sec. delay to stabilize the power-supply and battery, when mains input is connected. During “start up”, the BATTERY-LED will flash yellow.

 

Cable dimensions:

It is important that the cables from the charger have sufficient dimensions. Thin cables can cause large voltage drops. When the system is switched on, voltages should be checked at each load point.

BATTERY BOX.

 

The Batteries have to be installed as near as possible to the UPS CABINET to avoid power loss.

 

 

Installation .

The Battery Box is made for floor-/ wall-mount.

When using heavy batteries, we recommend floor-mont.

To avoid power loss, we also recommend to install UPS CABINET as near as possible to the Battery box(see drawing under).

 

Start installation with mounting Battery Box.  NB! Fuse OFF(0).

 

Connect battery-cables(2.50sqmm) to the fuse. NB! Correct polarity ++ red upper side, - - black down side.

 

Unscrew bushings of the two glands(IP66) which fits in the cableholes of the UPS CABINET and fit the cabinet to the wall. Fit the bushings to the glands.

 

Connect the battery cabels between Battery Box and UPS CABINET. NB! Correct!

 

Connect Mains Cable to spring connector in the UPS CABINET. NB!  GND

Put Mains ON.

Push the “Test”-butten on the display min. 10 sec., the controller go to “SERVICE MODE” and  the 4 LED’s will flash.

Control output voltage from PSU to be 27,2VDC. 

 

 

Safety .

 

The UPS conforms to the safety standard EN60950, class 1.

For indoor, stationary use only.

 

Service must be performed only by qualified personnel .

 

For overload protection a fuse is connected in series with the battery .

 

Maximum operating temperature for the UPS is +35oC at maximum output load. Check that the temperature inside the cabinet in which the UPS is mounted is not too high.

 

Cables for installation of low voltage equipment, need to be min. 2,50mm2  to avoid voltage drop.

 

Batteries will normally require renewal every 3 years.
